What Is Exterior HPL?
Exterior High-Pressure Laminate (HPL), also known as compact façade laminate, is a self-supporting architectural panel manufactured by compressing multiple layers of resin-impregnated kraft paper together with a decorative surface under high temperature and pressure.
Unlike ordinary interior laminates, Exterior HPL is specially engineered to withstand prolonged exposure to real exterior conditions while retaining its strength, stability and appearance.

Exterior Surface Protection Against UV and Weathering
Exterior HPL is engineered with advanced surface technology that defends against harsh outdoor conditions—ensuring lasting performance and colour beauty for decades.
Why Ordinary Laminates Fail Outdoors
Standard laminates lack UV-stable formulations and protective surfaces. Prolonged sun exposure causes fading, chalking, cracking and delamination.
Light-Stable Pigments
We use premium, light-fast pigments that resist UV degradation and maintain colour integrity for years.
UV Absorbers & Stabilisers
Special UV absorbers and HALS stabilisers protect the surface from harmful radiation and extend product life.
PMMA & Approved Surface Technology
A high-performance PMMA (acrylic) surface or approved exterior technology creates a durable, weather-resistant barrier with excellent UV protection.
How UV Resistance Is Tested
Tested as per ISO 4892-2 (Xenon Arc). Panels are exposed to intense UV, light and moisture cycles to evaluate colour and gloss retention.
Accelerated Testing vs. Real-World Life
Accelerated tests simulate years of exposure in a short time. Actual outdoor life depends on climate, orientation, colour choice and maintenance.
Colours React Differently Over Time
Darker shades absorb more heat and may show slight chalking. Bright and intense colours can fade faster than mid tones. Our advanced technology minimises visible changes.
Fire-Retardant Exterior HPL Options
Samrat Exterior HPL is available in standard and fire-retardant (FR) options, tested to recognized international standards for reliable fire safety performance.
Standard vs. Fire-Retardant: Not the Same
Standard grade panels are not designed for fire performance requirements. Fire-retardant (FR) grade panels are formulated and tested to deliver enhanced reaction-to-fire behaviour.
Fire Classification Applies to a Tested Configuration
A fire rating is valid only for the specific system that was tested. Changing any component can affect the classification.
Many Factors Influence the Classification
Classification depends on panel thickness, mounting method, substructure type, air cavity, insulation (if any) and the complete test system.
Tested to Applicable Standards
Samrat offers fire-retardant Exterior HPL options tested to internationally recognized standards for a wide range of applications.

Cleaning and Maintaining Exterior HPL Facades
Exterior HPL is designed for low maintenance. Simple, regular cleaning keeps the façade looking good and performing for decades
Routine Water Cleaning
Rinse the façade regularly with clean water to remove loose dust and dirt.
Mild Detergent
Use a mild, non-abrasive detergent when needed. Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
Soft Cloth or Brush
Use a soft cloth, sponge or soft brush. Avoid abrasive pads, steel wool or hard brushes.
Removal of Pollution Deposits
For stubborn dirt or pollution, use a mild detergent solution and soft brush. Rinse well to avoid residue.
Graffiti Cleaning Guidance
Most graffiti can be removed using suitable graffiti remover recommended by the cleaner manufacturer. Always test on a small area first and rinse thoroughly.
Materials and Chemicals to Avoid
Do not use abrasive cleaners, strong acids, alkalis, solvent-based products, bleach, acetone or high-pressure jet washers at close range.
Inspection of Fasteners and Joints
Periodically inspect visible fasteners, joints and sealant condition. Tighten any loose fasteners and repair sealants if required.
Recommended Periodic Façade Inspection
Inspect the façade at least once a year, or more frequently in harsh environments, to ensure continued performance and safety.
